Frosty Oranges with Limoncello Gelato

Frosty Oranges with Limoncello Gelato

Ingredients

  • 4 oranges
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 pint (250 ml) limoncello gelato
  • 1/2 pint (250 ml) lightly sweetened whipped cream
  • Candied orange peel, for garnish (optional)

Equipment

  • Paring knife
  • Small saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Freezer-safe container or tray

Method

  1. Prep oranges: Slice a thin cap from each orange. Scoop out the pulp to make neat shells; strain and reserve 1/4 cup juice.
  2. Make syrup: Warm the reserved juice with sugar in a small saucepan just until dissolved; cool completely.
  3. Fill & freeze: Spoon gelato into the orange shells, drizzle with cooled syrup, cover, and freeze until firm (about 3 hours).
  4. Serve: Top each with a rosette of whipped cream and a strip of candied peel.

Practical note: zest a little of the orange into the syrup before cooling for extra perfume.
